New staff sergeant at the RCMP detachment on the Sunshine Coast

She’s Poppy Hallam and comes to the community from Fort St. James.

Hallam, who grew up in Comox, also worked in detachments at Port Hardy, Port Alice, and Campbell River among others.

She said she’s, “Very much a community person and small-town policing is my forte and where I’m most comfortable is I’d like to know my community, I live in my community and I think it’s easier to police people you know. I am very much into volunteering and being out and knowing my community.”

Hallam says she knows the community is growing and there are some public safety issues to address moving forward.

She says she knows people in Gibsons are wanting an increased police presence there, there are lots of traffic and safety issues to deal with on the highway and the department will be doing some community consultations to make sure police are doing the things the community wants.
