Mobile Business License agreement coming to Central Vancouver Island

A new Mobile Business License agreement will soon be connecting 12 communities on Vancouver Island. B.C.’s Minister of Tourism and Small Business, Naomi Yamamoto, was in Parksville on Thursday, December 19, to announce the initiative, which comes into effect January 1, 2014.

Yamamoto was joined by municipal leaders from the dozen municipalities involved. She says the agreement will be especially beneficial for small businesses. 98 per cent of businesses in BC are small businesses, with less than 50 employees. Of those, more than 80 per cent have less than five.

Nelda Richardson, Manager of Business Licensing for the City of Nanaimo, says businesses in any of the dozen municipalities can buy one business license and operate in all of them.

Richardson says it will be more affordable and more efficient for business owners from Lake Cowichan up to Campbell River. The streamlined process will also enable effective communication between the 12 participating municipalities. There are now ten Mobile Business License agreements across BC involving 69 communities.
