Incinerator opponents on Lower Mainland plan to be front and centre at Metro event

Nanaimo and the Sunshine Coast aren’t the only places opposition to Metro Vancouver’s plan for waste to energy incinerators is building.

There’s also plenty of opposition on the Lower Mainland, and Wednesday those opponents are planning to be at a “stakeholder” workshop in Burnaby.

Jenna Ralston is with Burn Free BC.  She says the Metro Vancouver Board itself is far from unanimous on going ahead with plans for garbage incineration.

Sites near Port Mellon and Duke Point are on a short list, although Nanaimo Council is demanding the city be taken off the list.

Ralston also says decisions like postponing public information meetings in those communities are being seen as signs that Metro is starting to feel some pressure.
