Nanaimo Lakes fire still mostly out of control

Tinder-dry conditions in B.C. mean a wildfire can start in an instant.

There are five wildfires burning on the Island and a new one today at Horseshoe Bay.

Also, new today is a one-hectare fire west of Bowser.

The Nanaimo Lakes Fire, which started last Sunday continues to grow and the evacuation alert for 77 households remains in place.

Natasha Broznitski says the fire is 25 per cent contained but still considered out of control……

Traffic on Nanaimo River Road is currently being stopped in the direction heading to the fire.

People leaving the area are able to do so on Nanaimo River Road.

This fire is suspected to be human-caused but is under investigation.
