BC Ferries holiday schedule runs until Dec. 29th

BC Ferries has switched to its holiday schedule.

For the Nanaimo – Horseshoe Bay route the schedule is being “expanded” to put more time between sailings; along with the addition of 38 extra trips between now and December 29th.

The first extra sailings are on the 22nd, and most are scheduled for Boxing Day and the 27th.  Deborah Marshall of BC Ferries says those are going to be the busiest days.  She also says despite what many people think, Christmas Eve will not be all that busy.

The Langdale – Horseshoe Bay route is also switching to an expanded schedule, but there are no extra sailings. And, as they have in past years, BC Ferries is cancelling the first round trips on Christmas and New Years Days.

Sunshine Coast Transit is making some changes to try to match the ferry times, including additional buses. You can download the schedule here.

Marshall says they’ll also try to set a festive tone for passengers, and they’re not likely to face the same controversy Translink got into over Santa costumes.

That said, don’t expect a full turkey dinner – unless you’re on the Tsawassen Swartz Bay route.

You can get a look at BC Ferries’ predictions for busy travel times here.
