Texada couple still stunned after boat sinking survivor wanders into their yard

A Texada Island couple is still reeling after helping a Sechelt woman who survived a deadly ordeal in the waters of Malaspina Strait.

38 year old Jordan Patrick Beaudoin drowned Saturday night, when the boat he and his wife were in capsized. His wife managed to survive in the frigid water and reach the shore of Texada Island where, hours after the sinking, she eventually made her way to the cottage of 88 year year old Ramona Kappmeier and her 89-year-old husband Tony.

They’ve lived on Texada about 20 years. Ramona says they were surprised when the woman appeared at their gate and they did what they could.

Kappmeier says she’s amazed the woman was able to survive the swim and the long walk to their house, all while suffering from severe hypothermia.

The BC Coroners Service is leading the investigation into the accident, but RCMP have said they now suspect alcohol may have been a factor.
