RCMP say Sechelt couple invovled in fatal boating accident near Texada

RCMP say a Sechelt woman overcame the odds to survive a boating accident that claimed the life of her husband, now identified as 38 year old Jordan Patrick Beaudoin.

RCMP now say the couple left Halfmoon Bay for a day’s fishing on Saturday when the weather turned.  At first they took their 5 metre boat into a sheltered area near Texada Island, but tried to make a run for home when it looked like the weather was clearing.  This time the boat took on water and capsized.

The woman was able to get to shore, hike to a cottage in Gillies Bay, and get help.   At first rescue teams thought she spent around 6 hours in the water, but Constable Tim Kenning of Powell River RCMP says it likely wasn’t that long.

Beaudoin’s body was found late yesterday washed ashore on Texada.

RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are not releasing the woman’s name to respect her privacy.
