Figure skaters and hockey players on the Sunshine Coast are leaving the community during the spring and summer time to go play their sport.
Kate Turner who works with the local Minor Hockey Association and the Sunshine Coast Figure Skating Club says not having a year-round ice facility is a burden.
She says typically only the dedicated parents who are willing to pay extra and travel to other communities are the ones who sign their kids up.
Turner says if other community members feel a year-round ice facility would be beneficial they should continue speaking out on the issue and also write to their locally elected officials.
