Snow day for SD46 students, SD68 says schools open and buses running

Snowfall warnings remain in place for the mid-Island and Sunshine Coast, and that’s going to mean an extended Christmas holiday for students in School District 46 on the Sunshine Coast.  No buses today and all schools have been closed.  L’ecole du Pacific in Sechelt is also closed.

For the Nanaimo Ladysmith School District, the word is that schools are open and buses are running but they may be delayed.  The District is encouraging parents to use their own judgment about sending children to school.

On the roads.

Drive BC reports slushy and snow covered sections on Highways 101, 19, 19A, 4 and the Trans Canada and some heavy snow in areas around Nanaimo and We’ve been getting some reports of minor accidents, a lot of them on the Sunshine Coast in places like Halfmoon Bay and Gower Point.

And float plane companies have cancelled some flights between Sechelt and Nanaimo, best to check ahead.
