Qualicum School Board hoping to decide on closures this week

The Nanaimo Ladysmith School District isn’t the only one in the region facing a big budget shortfall and possible school closures.

The Qualicum School Board is getting ready to tackle those same issues this week.

Lynette Kershaw is the SD 69 Board Chair.  She says they’re facing a $3.5 -million budget shortfall, and declining enrollment, which is forcing their hand a bit.

4 elementary schools are slated for closure, they are: Parksville, Winchelsea, French Creek, and Qualicum Beach.

The Board is holding a special meeting Tuesday at 7pm to decide their fate, and look at other recommendations from a special  Facility Review and Resource Alignment Report.
