Darcy blames province for layoffs at Wexford Creek

NDP health critic Judy Darcy was in Nanaimo over the weekend.

Darcy joined Nanaimo North Cowichan MLA Doug Routley and others to protest layoffs at the Wexford Creek care home.

Good Samaritans, which runs the home under contract with Island Health, says the health authority isn’t providing enough money and they’re constantly in the red.  Earlier this month they gave more than 100 staff lay off notices, although some could be hired back for less money.

Darcy told the crowd the fault lies with the government, which she says is refusing to give Island Health the budget it needs.
