Maybins head to court for sentencing in 2006 death

Two Nanaimo brothers face sentencing Friday in a case that went all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada.

Timothy and Matthew Maybin pleaded guilty April 7th to their roles in the 2006 death of 20 year old Michael Brophy of Gabriola Island.

The pleas came before a new trial ordered by the high court was due to start.

Crown spokesman Neil MacKenzie says they’re asking for a sentence of 2 years less a day for Timothy on manslaughter and 6 to 12 months for Matthew on assault causing bodily harm.

A third man facing charges in the case, Buddah Gains, is also due in court today.
