Nanaimo residents can do better when it comes to recycling

Nanaimo residents are diverting about 64 per cent of their waste from the landfill, but the goal is 90 per cent.

David Thompson, Manager of Sanitation, Recycling and Public Works Administration says that would be 109 kilograms per person per year compared to now, which is almost 350 kilograms per person per year.

Thompson says it is doable…….

To help residents get to the goal, Thompson says the Nanaimo Recycles mobile app has a “What Goes Where” function that provides a list of places residents can take recyclables not accepted at the curb…..

Thompson says a problem item these days is bulky plastic.

There’s nowhere to take the item except to the landfill.
