Driver fatigue may have caused Thu crash on Trans Canada

Nanaimo RCMP say they’re looking at driver fatique as one of the reasons behind an accident on the Trans Canada south of the city.

Around 3:30 yesterday afternoon a 5-ton truck headed south went of the road and hit a light standard.  When the driver tried to correct, the truck hit the centre barrier and ended up flipped on the northbound lanes.

The driver, a 20 year old Brentwood Bay man, was not badly hurt and no other vehicles were involved.

The accident tied up traffic for a couple of hours.

Although the investigation continues the crash is prompting Corporal North Smith of Nanaimo RCMP Traffic Services to say, “Police are reminding the motoring public to ensure they have plenty of rest before driving for long periods . Pull over and rest if you feel tired.”
