The snow is not expected to last.  The Environment Canada special weather statements says, “As the wind picks up later in the morning, snow should change to rain near the immediate coast. However, further inland and over higher terrain, snowfall accumulations will reach 10 cm or more before tapering off to drizzle by late Friday afternoon.”

The snow might be worrying for drivers, but it’s being welcomed at the Sunshine Coast Regional District, where they’ve had to put off this weekend’s hoped for opening of the Dakota Ridge Winter Recreation Area.

Sam Adams is an SCRD Parks Planner.  Adams says even though it’s unlikely, they remain hopeful of getting enough snow to open by Christmas.  He says they need about a meter for safety, and then they’ll need a day or two to groom and prepare.

It’s the same story at the big resorts. Mount Washington says it only has a 25 centimeter base right now.
