BCNU renews attack on new care model as it starts at Victoria hospitals

The BC Nurses Union is taking another shot at Island Health, as Care Delivery Model Redesign starts at Victoria Hospitals.

And, the BCNU says a new survey shows it has the public behind it.

They say the poll of Island residents by the Mustel Group found 95 per cent of respondents want more evidence that CDMR isn’t making things worse for patients.

The union claims that’s exactly what’s been happening at Nanaimo Regional General, since the shift to care aides doing some of the jobs nurses used to handle.

“The BCNU has repeatedly demanded Island Health show us proof this new care model, which replaces nurses at the bedside, is safe for patients,” says President Debra McPherson. “This poll concludes the public overwhelmingly agrees with the need for evidence.”
