Routine changes to the bylaws for the Gibsons Landing Harbour Authority have sparked a debate about “open government” at Town Council.
The Harbour Authority needs new Articles because of changes to the federal Not-for-profit Corporations Act. Those Articles include rules for holding meetings.
Councillor Dan Bouman says this a great opportunity to make open public meetings the rule, not the exception. But some Councillors have concerns about the logistics.
Bouman would like to see the Harbour Authority follow the same guidelines as Council when it comes to meeting behind closed doors.
The new Articles have to go to the federal government by mid-October.
