Weston says Drug Drop-off Day to continue

West Vancouver, Sunshine Coast and Sea to Sky MP John Weston says the public safety and health ministers are getting behind a second Prescription Drug Drop-off Day.

Weston helped get the day created last year, and word it would continue came during a round-table last week on prescription drug abuse.

Weston says pharmacists and law enforcement agencies are increasingly worried about prescription drug abuse and trafficking, and getting unneeded drugs out of circulation is one way to stop it.

And he says it’s not just the risk of abuse and misuse;  failing to dispose of drugs properly can harm the environment.

This year’s Prescription Drug Drop-off Day is going to be May 10th.

Weston says in the program’s first year more than 2 tonnes of unused prescription drugs were collected.
