Major kinks in the emergency alert system

It appears the Emergency Alert messages that were supposed to be sent out in BC today didn’t make it to everyone’s phones.

Many residents on the Sunshine Coast who are with Bell, Rogers, Telus, Koodo with newer cell phones have reported they didn’t get the message. And others with the same provider did receive the message.

The alert system has been inconsistent at best. Some residents are saying they got the emergency alert but their loved ones, who are with the same provider, have a similar phone and were in the same house, didn’t get the alert message.

Similar things happened earlier this week when they alert system was doing tests in Ontario.

In our sister station, in the Cowichan Valley, we had eight phones in the building with various providers and four got the message while four did not. And all of the phones are LTE compatible.
