Coast Gravity Park set for opening day

After a successful crowd funding effort to raise start-up money, Coast Gravity Park is ready for a May 10th opening.

The Gravity Park, near Sechelt, is a mountain biking venue dedicated to downhill riding, and it works a bit like a ski hill.

Riders buy a pass, hit the trails and get a ride up at the end of the run.

Kyle Norbraten is with the “Coastal Crew” the mountain biking group heading up the project.  He says the runs are set up like ski hills too, with varying difficulty so people can come to learn, or push their limits.

Norbraten says they’re hoping the Gravity Park becomes a major tourist draw, building on the Sunshine Coast’s strong reputation as a trail riding area.

For now the shuttle system will use trucks, but down the road the Gravity Park would like to install lifts.  Norbraten says how and when that happens is going to depend a lot on the crowds this first season.
