Living wage climbs

A spokesperson for the Living Wage for Families Campaign says some of the policies implemented by the new government are helping, but what is really needed is some form of rent control.
Deanna Ogle was making the comments following the release of the living wage in 9 B.C. communities including in Parksville-Qualicum where the living wage is just over 17 dollars an hour, in the Comox Valley where it’s 16 dollars and 59 cents, in Victoria where it’s 20 dollars 50 cents, and in Powell River where it’s 15 dollars and 15 cents.
The living wage is the amount of money each parent in a family of four has to earn in order to meet their basic needs…..
Ogle says the living wages went up in all the communities surveyed despite the reduction in MSP premiums and new child care programs.
She says the cost of housing, in Parksville-Qualicum went up 173 dollars per month for a three bedroom unit.
