The Victoria Crescent Association is urging the BC Ministry of Health and the RCMP to base some of their resources out of the Community Services Office.
That office, formerly the Community Policing Office, is in the downtown area and Kevan Shaw, of the Association says it would go a long way towards helping with some of the negative influences in the downtown……
Shaw says, so far, neither the RCMP, nor the Ministry of Health have stepped up to the plate.
We spoke with the Nanaimo RCMP and were told the building does not meet the security requirements when it comes to using police software and there are regular bike and foot patrols in the area already, who do stop in to the Office from time to time.
We tried to talk to the BC Community Health Branch Manager in Nanaimo about the option of having some outreach workers based out of the Community Services Office but she did not return our phone call.
