Recycling depot plan going to public hearing

Regional Recycling is a step closer to getting a location in South Nanaimo.

The company already runs two facilities in the north end of the city, and they want to put a new one on adjacent lots at 1044 and 1048 Old Victoria Road.

Neighbours have raised objections, largely based around noise and increased traffic.

Tim Wait is working with Regional Recycling on the plan.  He says there’s demand for a facility like this in the South End and he says it’s only going to grow as the province shifts to so-called “producer responsibility” models for some recyclables.

After a Council vote this week the re-zoning application will go to a public hearing.
