Swift reaction expected to Northern Gateway report

The Liberal government and the NDP are getting ready to make their responses to the release of a review panel report on the Northern Gateway Pipeline, along with the various environmental and citizens’ groups who’ve been opposing the plan.

If it goes forward the 6-billion dollar pipeline would move diluted bitumen from Alberta’s oil sands to the B.C. coast for loading on tankers.

Alexandra Woodsworth of the Nanaimo-based Georgia Strait Alliance says no matter what the report concludes, the resistance to new and expanded pipelines will continue.

The federal government will have 180 days to consider the review panel’s recommendations before making a final decision.
