NRE closes the gate, options for residents

The Nanaimo Recycling Exchange is now closed.
No one at the Exchange is commenting, but the City has put out a release reminding residents of their disposal options.
Manager of Sanitation, Recycling and Public Works Administration, Charlotte Davis says most items that were accepted at the NRE can still be recycled in the community……

Plastic bags, glass and styrofoam can be taken to Alpine disposal on McGarrigle Road or to the Regional Recycling locations on Hayes Road or Old Victoria Road or to the RDN landfill in Cedar.

Yard Waste can be disposed of at Alpine disposal, DBL Disposal on Tenth street or at the RDN landfill.
The popular NRE, without financial support from the City of Nanaimo, couldn’t continue operating in the old location as it’s lease runs out at the end of the month.
City council is set to hear from staff on the options for the NRE next Monday.
