Province gives Burnco environmental assessment certificate

The province is giving Burnco an environmental assessment certificate for their aggregate mine proposal on the Sunshine Coast.

Scott Burns, CEO of Burnco Rock Products says they’ve been at this since 2008 and it’s great to get one of the many certificates that are required to move forward with the major project.

Burn adds they have to get federal approval due to the size of the proposed operation.

Burnco is looking to operate 70-hectare sand, gravel and rock mine, located on the northwest shore of Howe Sound and it would extract up to 1.5 million tonnes of aggregate each year over a 16-year mine life.

The environmental assessment certificate includes 25 conditions for Burnco such as the development of a marine mammal protection plan, a water management plan to monitor and manage impacts from the mine to nearby watersheds.
