Residents not ready for emergencies

An Ipsos poll, commissioned by Emergency Management BC says residents have not invested in an emergency kit or developed an emergency response plan because of “Personal laziness” or “apathy”.
Karen Lindsay, emergency program manager with the City of Nanaimo says it’s important to be ready for a range of emergencies from earthquakes to hazardous material spills, severe storms, wind, power outages, snow events and wildfires……

The poll shows, although 54 per cent of respondents have drafted an emergency plan, only 13 per cent say it’s complete.

Most households have emergency supplies for up to three days, though in many cases, important items are missing.
Four in 10 residents reported they are equipped with an emergency kit in their car, while only three in 10 have a kit at work or a “grab-and-go” bag at home.
