Business owner, armed with a bat, chases suspect from store

A call about a man chasing another with a baseball bat turned out to be the result of an attempted armed robbery in Nanaimo.

Now RCMP is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who attempted to rob a Wakesiah Avenue gas station.

The incident happened Saturday afternoon.

The suspect, armed with a knife, walked into the Super Save Gas gas station, in the 400 block of Wakesiah Avenue.

It turns out the owner of the station was chasing the armed suspect, who had attempted to steal a display case of zippo lighters, from the store.

The suspect’s face was concealed by a scarf.

He is about 6 feet tall, has dark skin and was last seen wearing a dark coat, sunglasses, hat, blue shirt, blue jeans and gloves.

Police say the best course of action during a hold up is to comply with the demands and call 9-1-1 as soon as you can.
