MLA’s hear discontent over speculation tax

The MLA’s have gone back to their ridings from the legislature in Victoria for a spring break.
Nanaimo’s Leonard Krog says for most of the next three weeks he will be at his constituency office to hear concerns from residents.
One of those concerns, he says, he has been hearing about is the speculation tax the NDP introduced in the last budget…..
The tax was announced in the 2018 budget and will affect homeowners in larger metropolitan areas of B.C., including the Regional District of Nanaimo, for any residential property that isn’t their principal residence and is not rented out.

Regional district chair Bill Veenhof says the tax will work against the region’s efforts to develop affordable housing.

The Nanaimo/North Cowichan MLA says there will be more clarity when it comes to the speculation tax in the coming months.
Doug Routley says he has heard plenty of concerns with regards to the tax since it was announced in the budget….
Routley says the budget only described the principle of the tax and all of the input the government is getting now will affect how the regulations will be put together.
