Ladysmith gets cash to remove some abandoned vessels, roadblocks prevent other communities from applying

Transport Canada has announced funding to help coastal communities clear out abandoned boats and Ladysmith is a recipient of some of those funds.

Ladysmith is gettingĀ 62,000 dollars to clean up some abandonded vessels.

Transport Minister Marc Garneau says the abandoned vessels program had few applicants.
Nanaimo Ladysmith MP, Sheila Malcomson says some communities have suggested the way the program is designed is making it hard for local government’s to take advantage of it……
The department says one point three million dollars is being made available to assess and remove 21 abandoned boats from ports and harbours in B.C.Ā and Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as to support an education campaign to deter the practice.
Malcolmson says, although the support is a drop in the bucket, the news is welcome.
