Quick action by police catches suspected thief, saves anniversary celebration

Nanaimo RCMP say a prolific offender is facing charges and an elderly couple’s 50th anniversary celebration has been saved.

It started with a flurry of 911 calls Friday night from people living at 158 Promenade Drive.

One caller said his door had been smashed, another heard a loud bang, and another said he opened his drapes and came “face to face” with a man on his patio

RCMP arrested a suspect after a brief chase.

They also recovered laptops stolen from a Mr and Mrs Barlow. They’d just been loaded with PowerPoint presentations created by their daughters for their 50th, which was Saturday.

According to RCMP the party went ahead as planned, and the Barlows celebrated with friends and family. The highlight was the presentation that was nearly lost to a thief. “It was beautiful and had all of our memories, hopes and dreams. We are just so pleased to have it returned, unblemished and in time for our party “said Anne Barlow.
