Davis Bay Wharf project a go

Work on restoring Sechelt’s iconic Davis Bay Wharf will begin next month.

The District says it’s signed a $300-thousand deal with a Vancouver Island firm to handle the work, and the Community Forest is offering $100-thousand from its new Legacy Fund to top up the fundraising.

And mayor John Henderson says more donors are likely to come forward, which means with the $168-thousand already raised, $150-thousand from the Island Coastal Economic Trust, and $130-thousand from the District there’s going to be enough money for a few extras.

Henderson that will likely include getting water and electricity service installed so the wharf can be used for live music and special events.

The District says it will have to close off public access to the wharf while the work goes on.  It should be done by the end of June.
