Glimmer of hope for the NRE

There’s a glimmer of hope for the Nanaimo Recycling Exchange from the Regional District of Nanaimo.

The NRE has a lease on the property it currently operates on, however that lease expires at the end of March and the non-profit organization has been scrambling to raise funds to find ways to keep operating.

RDN Board Chair, Bill Veenhof says the Board has offered 300,000 dollars a year annually for 5 years to the Exchange……

Veenhof says there are conditions attached to the offer…..

That Management Plan is in the draft stage now, is out for public consultation and has to be submitted and approved by the province.

Also, the money from the District has to be used to recycle items not commercially marketable.

The Exchange will be approaching Nanaimo City Council on Monday seeking 200,000 dollars per year.
