Nanaimo Council to debate incinerator

Nanaimo City Council is going to beĀ feeling the heat tonight when it debates the proposal for a garbage incinerator at Duke Point.

Duke Point, and a site near Port Mellon on the Sunshine Coast, are in the running for Metro Vancouver’s waste to energy project

Councillor Diane Brennan wants Nanaimo to reject the idea – before Metro’s selection process goes any further.

John Lucas is with Seaspan, one of the partnersĀ involved in the Duke Point bid, he says they want Council to let the process unfold.

The motion Council’s going to tackle tonight is the same one put forward by George Anderson back in December.Ā  At that time the majority of councillors said they wanted to put the debate on hold.
