Island girl to head to Germany for treatment

A 16 year old Duncan girl with scoliosis is heading to Germany next month for a medical procedure not available in Canada.
Eden Weiss says she was only diagnosed with the neuro-muscular condition last summer after numerous visits to specialists….
Because, Weiss was diagnosed so late, the only treatment available in Canada is Fusion but there is a relatively new procedure available out of the country which would allow the spine to remain flexible.
Weiss and her family will be flying to Germany next month hoping to get the procedure and have been raising money to help foot the 70,000 dollar bill (https://www.gofundme.com/spinal-surgery-for-eden).
Scoliosis usually becomes evident in children aged between 10 and 12, it occurs more often in girls and students used to be screened for it in school, but that doesn’t happen anymore.
