Spotlight on grandparents raising grandchildren

On this, Family Day, the Parent Support Services Society of B.C. is shining the spotlight on grandparents who are raising grandchildren.
Central Island Coordinator, Sandi Halvorson says, that’s in light of a growing number of grandparents taking on the lead caregiver role when it comes to their children’s children.
Halvorson says there are a number of issues specific to raising a relative’s child including grief that your son or daughter is incapable of taking on the role and, in some cases, having to redirect your retirement finances.
But Halvorson says it’s also isolating…..
Halvorson says the numbers are sketchy, but there are more than 85 kids being raised by their grandparents in the Duncan area and more than 105 in Nanaimo.
The Society offers support services in the Central Island area including in Duncan, Nanaimo and Parksville.
