NDP Agriculture Critic Nicholas Simons says he’s welcoming the appointment of a new agriculture minister; for two reasons.
Simons, the MLA for Powell River Sunshine Coast, says it will give current minister Pat Pimm (Peace River North) a chance to focus on treatment and recovery after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
He also says having Kelowna Lake Country MLA Norm Letnick on the file may open a chance to convince the government to change direction on changes to the Agricultural Land Commission.
Simons says the voices against splitting the Commission and changing some rules for protecting farmland are growing.
