Nanaimo RCMP recover stolen bikes

Nanaimo RCMP are planning to reunite some stolen bikes with their owner. The three high end mountain bikes were reported stolen on April 8 and will be returned to the owner today. The owner is apparently “over the moon” at the thought of getting his bikes back.

The Nanaimo RMCP Street Crimes Unit hit the streets in search of the bikes.

“This Unit knows who is involved in thefts and they were confident if they knocked on enough doors and shook enough trees they would find the bikes. Sure enough their efforts were rewarded last night with   the recovery of all three,” said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

There were no charges laid but investigators have not ruled out the possibility of laying charges later. Their investigation was helped by the fact the owner had recent pictures of the bikes, along with serial numbers and detailed descriptions of each bike. The incident was also reported immediately to the police.

RCMP have released the following list of safety tips to reduce the chance of having your bike stolen:

-report all bike thefts and suspicious activity immediately to the police
