The future of post-secondary education in BC was up for discussion at Vancouver Island University on Thursday. David Eby, the NDP’s Advanced Education Critic, spoke to students about some of the challenges they’re facing.
Eby says a study by the Bank of Montreal showed post-secondary students in BC have more debt than any other students in Canada.
Along with the high cost of post-secondary education, Eby says there are two major problems plaguing the advanced education system.
Eby says it’s not a particularly happy message, but there is hope in the fact that people who graduate in BC do have a much higher chance of employment. He says students need to be ambassadors for education, to fight for the funding needed to improve the system.
