The province says work on the latest round of safety upgrades for the Malahat will start next month.
The Ministry of Transportation is awarding an 8.3 million dollar contract that includes widening the highway and installing 2.3 kilometres of median barrier from Shawnigan Lake Road north to the Malahat Summit.
That stretch of the highway includes the notorious NASCAR Corner.
Three people from Nanaimo died in an accident there in October of 2012, that also left 5 injured.
The work is expected to finish next spring.
