Refuge family arrives in Nanaimo region

It was an emotional scene at the Nanaimo airport Friday morning.

The Qualicum Refugee Group welcomed a young Syrian family to the community.

Tired but happy, they walked into the terminal to the sound of cheers from well-wishers.

The youngest slept through the entire event in the arms of his dad and the older children were visibly tired after a long journey from Beirut to Cairo to Toronto to Vancouver and then to Vancouver Island.

The Group is still looking for volunteer drivers for the family who will need to attend English language classes in Nanaimo, to get the children to and from school and for special occasions when public transit is not available.
