Grant aims to improve physical activity in Parksville and Qualicum Beach

The Regional District of Nanaimo, Recreation and Parks Department snagged a grant for just over 74,000 dollars.
It’s to help support a number of initiatives aimed at improving accessibility and opportunities for physical activity in the Parksville and Qualicum Beach area.
Hannah King, says the RDN Recreation and Parks Services Department has already hired a consultant to look at physical accessibility at public recreation facilities but they’ll also do a social inclusion audit….
Another report will focus on fee structures and rental policies in buildings where public recreation programs take place.
King says both reports are expected to be done in the spring and are to include specific recommendations.
Some of the grant money will be used to make small improvements to public spaces like installing basketball hoops at playgrounds or installing play boxes at former school sites and in municipal parks.
