Changes to EI benefits take effect Dec 3

The Federal Government has made some changes to EI benefits.
EI parental benefits can now be drawn over a period of up to 18 months, up from 12 months, however the benefit rate will be lower.
And, new to the EI program is the Family Caregiver benefit for adults.
That program will provide benefits for up to 15 weeks so a family member can provide care or support to an adult family member who is critically ill or benefits that will run for 35 weeks if it’s a child who is critically ill.
Paul Sibley, Executive Director of the Nanaimo Community Hospice Society says that’s good news….
The program is in addition to the Parents of Critically Ill Children benefit and the Compassionate Care benefit.
The changes come into effect December 3rd.
