A search is underway for an elderly woman who failed to return from an afternoon of mushroom picking.
RCMP officers from Ladysmith, with help from local Search and Rescue, Air 8 and Police Dog Services are looking in a remote area, about 5 kilometres west of the Nanaimo airport.
73 year old Bertha Hanson, of Nanaimo left her home around noon Sunday.
Her vehicle was located near the intersection of Timberlands and Ninatti Road.
Police say Hanson often takes her camera with her when she’s mushroom picking and carries it in a red Molson Canadian cooler bag.
She has no known medical conditions but she is not believed to be dressed for an extended stay in the wilderness.
