Nanaimo Regional General Hospital is getting two new operating rooms. Island Health’s Suzanne Germain says they were shelled in when the surgical facility was opened in 2005. She says bumping the number of ORs from eight up to ten will mean more surgeries can happen during regular daytime hours.

Germain says the $3 million cost is being shared between the Nanaimo District Hospital Foundation, Island Health and the Regional Hospital District of Nanaimo. The Hospital Foundation is hoping to raise $1.5 million to contribute to the project. The additional operating rooms are expected to be finished sometime in the fall.
