Province launches cannabis consultations

The province is getting its ducks in a row so that it’s prepared when the Federal government legalizes the recreational use of marijuana.
The Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Mike Farnworth says they’ve launched a process for public consultation that will run through to November 1st.
Farnworth says there are numerous questions that they need answered from a variety of stakeholders, including local governments…..
The government plans to, not only talk to local governments and the general public about the laws that need to be in place but will also launch a random telephone survey, talk with Indigenous governments and organizations, and stakeholders from law enforcement, health, agriculture and other sectors.
The Federal government is planning to pass legislation to legalize the recreational use of marijuana in July of 2018 and Farnworth says the province hopes to have their legislation in place before then.
Today through Nov. 1, people can share their views about B.C.’s approach to non-medical cannabis legalization at: engage.gov.bc.ca/BCcannabisregulation/
