Fire officials go door to door

Occupants of a home have less than 3 minutes to escape a house fire and a working smoke alarm can make a big difference in that situation.
That’s why Nanaimo Fire Rescue will be going door to door at the beginning of Fire Prevention Week, October 8th.
Umesh Lal, an inspector with Nanaimo Fire Rescue says members will knock on doors and ask residents some questions about their smoke alarms….
Lal says the campaign is focused on the downtown core…..
Lal says members of the department will be asking residents some questions about their smoke alarms and if it’s not working as it should, they’ll offer to install a new one at no cost.
