Nanaimo RCMP find stolen cello, 4 facing charges

A Nanaimo senior is getting her prized cello back, but RCMP say they fear other items taken in a recent break-in may never be recovered.

RCMP say 75 year old Irene Field came home from a vacation to find burglars had hit her south end home.  They took thousands of dollars worth of stuff, including jewelry, purses, golf clubs, china, a TV, a violin and the cello that belonged to her late husband.

Police recovered the cello after the stolen items started showing up at local pawn shops.

4 people have been arrested: Three men and a woman. All are from Nanaimo and all have had run-ins with police in the past.  All four face charges.

“Incredibly, many of these keepsakes were simply taken to local drug houses in exchange for drugs. Others were pawned for cash, and sadly other items may never be located. The file is still very active and more charges are expected,” says Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
