Exemptions increase for those on assistance

The province has announced more changes to the income of people on income and disability assistance.
Beginning October 1st people on income assistance will be able to earn an additional 200 dollars a month without any impact on their payment and for those on disability assistance, the annual earnings exemption will increase by 2,400 dollars a year.

The change is in addition to the 100 dollar increase to income and disability assistance rates that also takes effect October 1st.

In the meantime, the province is continuing to work on a Poverty Reduction Plan.
Shane Simpson, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction says the groundwork is being done……
About 700,000 people in B.C. live in poverty and Simpson says many of them are working poor.
