George proposal filling the in-boxes at Gibsons Town Hall

The application isn’t even formally in front of Council, but those both for and against a proposed hotel/conference centre on the Gibsons waterfront are making themselves heard, or read actually.

Both sides have mounted aggressive letter writing campaigns.

Councillor Dan Bouman says they’ve been getting so much correspondence on the George Hotel he had the subject added to the December 17th agenda.

Bouman says he wanted people to know the letters and e-mails were getting seen, although he says it may be too early to start forming hard opinions.  He says, “I actually appreciate getting the correspondence, it gives me a sense of how much dissension there is in the community and what some potential ‘median’ places might be.”

Town staff say they aren’t really keeping a tally of “for” and “against”.  They say the eventual public hearing will be the time for that.

The report from planners that will start things moving toward that public hearing is due in January.
